Hon. Nnaji to build pavilion at ESUT, lights up varsity, gives N1 million to best-graduating students
The member representing Nkanu East/West Federal Constituency of Enugu State in the House of the Representatives, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, has pledged to use his legislative influence to attract a befitting pavilion for his alma mater, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT.
Hon. Nnaji, who had already installed 50 street lights in the University, further pledged to bring more 200 street lights to eliminate dark spots in the University.
The lawmaker equally gave N500,000 each to the overall best-graduating student of 2023/2024 graduating set, ESUT , Ikenna Chinagorom Ezenwa, and the best-graduating student in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pamela Nnamani, to encourage their outstanding academic achievements.
He made the announcements while addressing the audience during the 21st convocation ceremony of the University on Saturday.
While presenting the cash awards to the beneficiaries, the ESUT Management led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, thanked the lawmaker, describing his representation at the National Assembly as effective.
“In the Federal Government of Nigeria budget today, ESUT has N150,ooo,000 courtesy of Hon. Nnaji. We are discussing with him on how to access the fund for the project it is meant for. I feel so proud that upon all the people in the National Assembly from Enugu State, he is the only person that has done much more than anybody for our university. I am encouraging other lawmakers from our state to equally emulate him so that we can collectively develop our university,’ the VC said.
The Vice Chancellor stated that the street lights would complement the efforts of the University Management which had also installed 80 street lights at students’ hostels to improve security in the University.
In their separate remarks, the beneficiaries of the cash awards thanked Hon. Nnaji, stating that the gesture would inspire them to strive for excellence in their future academic endeavours.
