ESUT to graduate 7,991 students at 21st convocation
The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) is set to graduate 7,991 students during its 21st convocation ceremony slated for Saturday, November 22, 2025.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Alloysius Okolie, disclosed this on Wednesday during a press briefing held at the Peter Mbah Auditorium. He explained that the convocation will cover graduates from the 2023/2024 academic session across the university’s 13 faculties, ranging from first-degree holders to postgraduate diploma, master’s degree, PhD, and other honorary doctorate recipients.
According to him, 14 students earned first-class honours, 1,646 obtained second-class upper division, 4,619 finished with second-class lower, 113 made third class, while 233 graduated with pass grades, including those in professional programmes in medicine, surgery, and pharmacy.
Prof. Okolie noted that ESUT has sustained its commitment to holding convocation ceremonies annually, having successfully conducted those of 2022, 2023, and 2024. He further announced that the 2025 convocation lecture will be delivered on Friday, November 21, by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, on the theme, “Legislative Leadership and the Future of Democratic Governance in Nigeria.” He expressed gratitude on behalf of the university community for the Speaker’s acceptance to deliver the lecture despite his busy schedule.
The Vice Chancellor also confirmed that the awarding of first degrees, postgraduate degrees, and honorary doctorates will take place on Saturday, November 22. Breaking down the graduating figures, he stated that 6,625 students will receive first degrees; 212, postgraduate diplomas; 720, master’s degrees; 434, PhDs; alongside other doctorate awardees.
As part of the ceremony, three eminent Nigerians will receive honorary doctorate degrees. He listed them as Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, who will be honoured for Legislative Practice; Dr. Paulinus Ozonnagbo, CEO of Polystar Electronics, for Business Administration; and Senator Osita Ngwu, Senate Minority Whip, for Governance and Public Policy.
Prof. Okolie also commended Governor Peter Mbah for his unwavering support to the institution, noting that the state government has approved N1.4 billion for the construction of the university’s perimeter fencing.
