ESUT renames Alumni Centre, institutes award of excellence to immortalize late Governing Council member, Engr. Dr, Akuvue
Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, on Friday, instituted an award of excellence to immortalize a member of the University Governing Council, Engr.Dr.Sir. Innocent Akuvue who died on Friday, September 5, 2025.
In a mock Governing Council Session and Alumni Tribute organized in honour of late Akuvue, the Governing Council led by Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa, resolved to institute N300,000 award of excellence to the best-graduating student of the University every academic session in recognition of academic excellence which the deceased stood for.
Equally, the National President, ESUT Alumni Association, Barr. CNN Nwagbara, announced that the Alumni Centre in the University would be renamed after late Akuvue in recognition of his commitment and rich foundational roles and philanthropic gestures towards the growth of the Association and humanity at large.
In a glowing tribute to the deceased, the Chairman, ESUT Governing Council, Sir Ohaa, described late Engr. Akuvue’s death as a collosal loss to his family, the University community and humanity in general.
He stated that he made positive marks which are indelible in the hearts of humanity, urging the University community to emulate his humanistic legacies which endeared him to many.
Equally in his tribute, the Vice Chancellor of ESUT, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, stated that the late Engr. Akuvue deepened academic research and innovation in the University by supporting each inaugural lecturer with N500,000.
He further stated that he was detribalized and committed in his community service, adding that he made unprecedented sacrifices for the growth of humanity.
Pioneer President of ESUT Alumni, Chief Alex Ogbonnia, Former member of Council and former Dean PG School, Prof. Ike Oluka and Dean, Allied Health Sciences ESUT, Prof Humphrey Nwobodo also took turns to eulogize and recount the invaluable roles of this great Alumnus which have contributed immeasurably in the growth of ESUT.
Also, ESUT Alumni Association branch President in Port Harcourt, Edwin Okoye, including his counterparts in Enugu, Ebonyi, and Lagos States, Chief Dr. Obi Ilo, Gil Emeka Abonyi, and Dr MacSylvester Ndolo respectively, eulogized late Engr. Akuvue, describing him as a team player, moralist and an uncommon benefactor.
Equally in his tribute, a member of the ASUTECH Forum, Engr. Sam Uwaezuoke, described the late Engr Akuvue, as a pillar of support to the younger generation, urging the University community to sustain his legacies.
The mock Governing Council meeting was attended by all the members of the ESUT Governing Council, principal officers of the University, critical stakeholders of ESUT and friends and well-wishers of late Engr Akuvue.
Late Engr. Akuvue, a native of Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, would be buried in his country home on 28th November, 2025.
