ESUT VC commends Enugu CP on security, seeks collaboration
The Vice Chancellor of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, on Wednesday, lauded the Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police Force for providing adequate security in the state.
The Vice Chancellor who stated that “Enugu is the safest,” state in Nigeria, equally lauded the sacrifices of the officers of Enugu State Police Command for carrying out their duties with professionalism and utmost regards for human rights and rule of law.
He made the remarks when he led the Management of ESUT including the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof Chike Nwoha, the Provost, ESUT College of Medicine, Prof Uchenna Ekwochi, the University Librarian and others on a courtesy call to the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, to intimate him on the forthcoming 21st convocation ceremony of the University on Saturday. He equally lauded the Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, for providing adequate support to the police command.
While calling for collaboration between ESUT and the Command, he urged the CP to encourage the personnel to enroll into programmes offered by the University’s Institute for Peace, Conflict and Development Studies to upgrade their manpower development.
He equally urged the personnel to provide practical security intelligence at the Institute in order to cement their civil relations with various publics.
In his response, the Commissioner of Police, Giwa, who bemoaned rising wave of crimes in the society, noted that the security challenges he met in the state have been tackled through the cooperation of his lieutenants.
The Commissioner, while appreciating Governor Mbah of Enugu State for his supports to the Command, added that he doesn’t interfere with the professional operations of the officers of the command.
He pledged to cooperate with ESUT in the fight against crime, assuring that the officers of the command would provide adequate security during the convocation and beyond.
Also, in his remarks,, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation Department, Iya Umar Mohammed, assured ESUT Management of the cooperation of the command in fighting vices and other forms of criminality in the University.
