344 ESUT graduands inducted into MLSCN
The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, MLSCN, on Friday, inducted 344 graduands of Medical Laboratory Science Department of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, into their profession.
While performing the induction ceremony which was the 5th in the series for the university, the Acting Registrar, MLSCN, Dr. Donald Ofili, lauded the commitment of ESUT Management to academic excellence, professionalism and integrity.
Dr. Ofili congratulated the graduands, stating that Medical Laboratory Science practice deals with critical health decisions as other health practitioners rely on the accuracy of laboratory tests.
He enjoined the graduands to continue to seek for more knowledge, reaffirming the Council’s renewed commitment to strengthening regulatory oversight, accreditation and laboratory quality systems in line with evolving International Organization for Standardization, ISO, benchmark.
“You are joining a profession that stands at the heart of medical diagnosis and research. Uphold the ethics, sustain professional competence, and let integrity guide your every action,” he charged.
In his opening remarks, the Vice Chancellor of ESUT, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, congratulated the graduands and enjoined them to place the lives of their patients above every other considerations.
He equally enjoined them to value human lives and resist the urge for get-rich-quick syndrome, stating that it may land them into ethical violation of their professional oath.
The Vice Chancellor who was represented by his Deputy Professor, Chike Nwoha, equally enjoined the graduands to be good ambassadors of ESUT in their service to humanity, urging them to be disciplined and humble in the discharge of their duties.
In his induction keynote address, titled “Professionalism and Innovation for Global Opportunities,” the Chairman, Trade Union Congress, Enugu State Chapter, Comrade Bennett Asogwa, urged the graduands to be honest at all times and to maintain utmost confidentiality with the laboratory results of patients.
Comrade Asogwa urged the graduands not to embark on private practice until they have gained more knowledge and professional experience.
The chairman of the occasion and the member representing Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency of Enugu State, Hon. Professor Paul Nnamchi, while congratulating the inductees, pledged to provide laboratory equipment worth N10, 000,000 for the department.
Highpoint of the ceremony was the presentation of the graduands for oath-taking by the Head of Department, Medical Laboratory Science, ESUT, Dr. Miriam Aniagolu.
The induction was consolidated, covering 2014 to 2019 academic sessions.
